The 5 Most Beautiful Things In Life That Are Invisible

Open up your senses to invisible beauty.

Open up your senses to invisible beauty.

Everyday you are surrounded by sheer beauty.

The question is, are you feeling it, are you aware of it…or are you too busy in your mind?

The beauty could be in the form of a rising sun, the sound of your child’s laugh, the flowing steam off a fresh morning coffee, or that beautiful and coy smile from a stranger on your way to work.

When we think of beauty, most of us immediately think of things such as beautiful places with exotic beaches, a sexy model, a masterpiece painting, or many other PHYSICAL things in life.

I contemplated the idea of beauty the other day and I realized the things I find in life the MOST beautiful are those things that I can not touch, taste, or even see.

They are purely invisible, yet they have the greatest and most profound weight of beauty on my heart and soul.

I truly feel that this is on purpose. I think this is the way God works. Why create the most beautiful things and make them 100% detectable by our senses?

Where is the mystery and wonder in that?

Isn’t that part of what makes things beautiful anyway…the mystery, the unknown?

Here are the 5 Most Beautiful Things In Life That Are Invisible
(in no particular order)…

  • Sounds/Music

I don’t know about you, but music to me is the most moving art form in this world. There are songs that take me to another world and make me feel something that I can not put my finger on. Music is simply powerful and it has the force to change the world. I read once that the reason we fall into the rhythm and beat of music is because it reminds us of our mother’s heartbeat when we were in the womb. To me, this makes sense.

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music.
I see my life in terms of music. I get most joy in life out of music.” -Albert Einstein

Besides music, even simple sounds in life can be the most beautiful “music”. This could be the laugh of a child, the sound of a thunderstorm or a subtle morning rain while laying in bed or the wind in the trees. All sound is invisible, yet many sounds can be utterly beautiful.

What sounds melt your heart and perks up your soul?

Start adding soul moving sounds into your life and watch your world transform.

  • Stillness/Silence

In the previous example I stated how beautiful music and other sounds can be. But as you know, for every wonderful sound out there, there are probably 100 that are NOT so pleasant. This could be the sound of a jackhammer, a car stereo blasting music, or people screaming. I’m sure you can name a few sounds in life that really get under your skin.

But one of the most beautiful sounds in life is one that most of us do not implement enough. It is no sound at all, it is pure silence. Or as Simon and Garfunkel once sang, “The Sounds of Silence”. It is moving from a state of movement and the hustle and bustle of life to being still and quiet. Meditation is the best way to soak in the silence.

When we go silent, our minds and bodies have a chance to “reset” and calm down. When this occurs, a sense of peace and rest comes over us. Not only that, we clear out the mental static in our minds and we are able to see the world more clearly.

“Silence is the mother of truth.” -Benjamin Disraeli

  • Fragrance/Smells

Never underestimate the power of a sweet smell or fragrance. It can radiate like fresh baked bread from an oven, or the wonderful floral scent drifting off the long neck of a beautiful woman. What about fresh baked chocolate chip cookies? There are so many smells and fragrances in life, although completely invisible, that can immediately bring us happiness, joy, and a sense of “ahhhh”.

Another powerful thing about certain smells in our lives is that they can tap into our subconscious and our past. A smell can awaken within us a time in our life that was very pleasant. Of course, the same can be said for unpleasant times as well.

Try adding certain scents or fragrances into your daily life that make you feel happy. Me, I actually wear the cologne called, “Happy” because I love how the citrus smell makes me perk up. You can add pleasant scents in your life via cologne or perfume, home scents, or even adding fresh flowers into a room.

“Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains…”
-Diane Ackerman

  • Contentment/Peace

Peace and contentment can not be touched, seen or smelled. It is not visible to the naked eye, yet it can be deeply felt within us. You can not buy peace of mind or personal contentment, it is simply achieved. Everyone has their own path to peace within. The trick is navigating the waters of life and not getting drowned by the waves.

Remember that peace and contentment can be found in small moments and small things!

You do not have become Gandhi, Jesus, or Mother Teresa to find contentment and peace. You simply need to find the small things in life that give you a sense of fulfillment, a sense of peace within, and do them often. It could be as simple as taking 10 minutes out of your day to meditate or do deep breathing. It could be playing with your kids at the local playground. It could be writing poems, doodling, or going to the lake to fly kites.

Find YOUR daily peace and contentment.

It is there, but maybe you are not looking hard enough…or maybe you are looking too hard. Peace and contentment are free and invisible, but only you know where you may find it.

  • LOVE

Last but not least, the most beautiful thing in the world…love. We were born from love, and we live to love. Love is the single greatest driving force in our lives. It is our purpose to love and to be loved. At the very core of every action, this is our greatest need. The invisible power of love is the greatest single thing we can give to one another. Love has the power to break down walls, unite countries, create hope and beautiful pieces of art and cinema, and totally change the world…one single person at a time.

What makes you feel love?

Do you give out love, or do you simply look for others to love you?

Learn to harness the power of love in your heart and your life. Drop your ego. Stop being selfish. Give away love and watch it comeback to you tenfold. The next time you cook or write something, do it with love and watch what happens.

“Beauty is a primeval phenomenon, which itself never makes its appearance, but the reflection of which is visible in a thousand different utterances of the creative mind, and is as various as nature herself.” -Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

    So true, specially about adding love to your cooking. My family can tell the difference when I cook half heartedly in a hurry, and I have been given permission not to cook if I am not into it.

    Thanks for sharing.

  7. I love the way you have focused on the power of music to enable us to inhabit a connection to something more intimate and beautiful.

    As a professional singer I was able to share this amazing connection with many thousands of people – it is a very profound doorway to feeling better about life, simply by allowing this connection to stir you emotionally, not necessarily with the intellect.

    Just by listening to something that moves you every day (anything! not necessarily “highbrow”, whatever that means :) ) you can do wonders for your emotional state.

    Great post, thanks!

    Great post. It really serves as a reminder to experience our days and appreciate and enjoy those things that may sometime go unnoticed. It is so easy to get caught up in our daily routines and we need to slow down and absorb those things that we can count on to continually and consistently replenish us. Thanks for the great post.

    Dayne,

    As a former musician, music is really one of the most amazing forces of nature in my life. I often listen to music when I do my writing and find that it puts me into a flow state that makes me a keyboard turn into a piano. Peace I find brings out the best qualities in us.

    As always, the most inspirational posts and eye opening. This post is really so true to my own heart. It seems sometimes even when we have the 5 minutes of silence we find ourselves looking for something to fill it with. I plan to just seize the moment each and every day. Thanks for the reminder.

  12. Hi Dayne,

    What an amazing post!

    For me music is the most moving art form too. Listening to some great tracks brings tears (a few :) to my eyes.

    There’s an amazing book (and a movie) that explains the special power of fragance=> Perfume, story of a murderer. Highly recommended, maybe you already know it.

    You cologne is called “Happy” :) jejeje, what a coincidence. I should do the same and look for a cologne called “ilcantone”, difficult :).

    See you Dayne.

  13. Hi Dayne,

    Beautiful post as always. You are so right. Usually the most beautiful things in life are invisible. Personally, love is the best. Love is something that we all want and know. Yet it is something that we can touch or see. We just know it when we see it. That is true for a lot of amazing things in life.

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts. :)

  15. Hi Dayne,

    I love this post and really believe it’s central premise is critical to our ongoing and long-lasting happiness – individually, and as a community.

    You’ve inspired me to reflect on what else is beautiful, invisible and free:

    The incredible idea that life is continually trying to express itself through us;

    * The sublime feeling of a cooling sea breeze on a hot summer day;

    * The special touch inside and out when someone you care about hugs you;

    * The infectious joy at being able to reach out and make a difference to the lives of others;

    * The miracle of knowing we are alive i.e. that we have a conscious awareness of our humanity;

    * The inner-peace of knowing we are loved and that life has meaning and purpose;

    * The indescribable joy at seeing the faces of your newborn children for the first time.

    All invisible.

    All beautiful.

    All free.

    Your blog is a canvas for creative expression that inspires happiness and joy.

    Shine on, Dayne.

    Its really amazing artcile. We should think about this all things which is free of cost.

  19. Anantha says:

    hi
    I completely agree with your views of beauty. In fact i wanted to write on beauty just like you have done here. Everybody can find happiness anywhere provided they think the right way.

  20. jesse forbes says:

    This article is truly inspirational. It allows you to really delve into the depths of beauty and the end result is pure simplicity. The most basic of all of human foundation taken to its bare minimum is that of our senses and feelings. It is what makes us tick and what keeps the world turning, and its forgotten about and taken for granted by so many; but, what if it were taken away? Where would that leave us? We would be an empty hollow black shell.

  22. Corrine says:

    I too thoroughly enjoyed these readings. Music, nature, beauty, all invisible.
    Love over the years I’ve come to understand that love is respect for myself and others. It is truly invisible, but so VALUABLE.

    Thanks,

    oh this is the most morally beautiful site i have ever visited! two thumbs up! i can add my two pence by saying that friendship (not for the sake of gain), flowers ( the fragrance and i mean real not artificial), feelings recollected in tranquility that give you an eternal glimpse into the unknown and with extreme subtlety let you know the delicate truth of the imagination of mankind in which everything creative resides, flirtation and the pull of attractive forces between a boy and a girl in the prime of their youth, the intuition or hunch that proves right and that you thank God for, and last but not least the irrepressible laughter that comes with a belly laugh especially at the most funniest event or dirtiest joke. these experiences are meaningless but that only means that the ordinary people extract less meaning out of them. they could be meaningful provided you extract full meaning out of them. you have to milk them for their experiential value. and that takes practice and patience.
