50 Reasons Why You Should Be Happy To Be Alive

Post written by Warren. Follow him on Twitter.

Life is your gift, open it.

Life is your gift, open it.

Life can be tricky.

Life can be sticky.

Life can be fun. Life can be sad. But one thing is for sure, life changes like the weather, and we can either “go with the flow” or fight it.

In today’s society, with a plethora of stimulation from the fast-paced life that surrounds us, chock full of stress and demands, I think many of us simply question…how can I even be happy to be alive? We may say to ourselves that life seems more about simple survival than it is about truly living and being happy.

So I started to think about reasons why all of us should be happy to be alive. Maybe I needed a reminder to myself even. Who knows? In any case, I hope you enjoy the list I have created below. I feel that somewhere in my list of 50 reasons you should be happy to be alive you may see…yourself.  Or, see something or feel something you may have not felt before or clearly seen. Maybe it is a wake-up call to your soul. Whatever it is, I hope something in the list sparks your inner happiness and makes you realize it is good to be a red-blooded human being…and to not take for granted this one thing we all currently have…being alive.

50 Reasons Why You Should Be Happy To Be Alive

Let me ask you…

What makes YOU happy to be alive?

  1. All of these reasons are AWESOME! Sometimes we get caught up on what sucks, what’s not going well, but this is a great reminder of all of the reasons we’re lucky to be here. There are so many great things about life and you’ve touch on 50 of the greatest things here! :)

    Hi Dayne,
I’m a new follower of your blogs and I really found it interesting a few things that you shared. I’m not so sure what to think of the ‘shaking out the trauma’ part but I do believe that feelings can become suppressed and later on in life add to the reason of an illness. I believe that i had a lot of post-add ups.. and then finally realized I needed to stop, love myself and realize that I’m worthy of the same thing I was giving away. It’s an amazing realization and lately I’ve had to take Courage just as you shared and so I started this site to progressively work through the process of embracing healing, but more importantly; I believe for the first time consciously in my life that I deserve to be HAPPY!! Yikes! I’m pretty excited! Probably sounds bizarre, and if you knew me you’d know I’m a happy person, but I never really thought that I could deserve the ultimate happiness or consciously thought so. I just love life because I’m a passionate dreamer and love people, and so that is why I’m happy; I refuse to let circumstances keep me in their grasp! :) I’m happy to follow your blogs also! Stop by any time as well as I continue my healing journey! I’m hoping it will also empower others who wish to get well and are on that final step to commit to the last stretch!! I’m so close! Life is beautiful! Take care, Blessings ~Sharmila / Jen

    • Hey there Jen, thanks for the fantastic comment. Yes, the “shaking out” trauma concept is a bit odd (from the “How To Free Yourself From The Inside Out” post), but people have had really good success. But either way, there are many ways to find peace and harmony within ourselves and to “free” the sludge thats inside.

I’m glad you have realized you deserve happiness. Of course you do! Everyone does, but it is a matter of choice, and where we put our focus. There are so many things we can put our focus in that gives artificial happiness. I try to focus on what resonates within me, and sticks around. Most of it has to do with simplicity, and giving to others.

I will check out your blog also, thanks again for commenting!

Thank you Dayne for your response! :)
You know the ‘shaking out’ the trauma and ‘breaking things responsibly’ to make one feel better are such new concepts to me but I find them interesting just the same! :) Cheryl Richardson has an amazing book out entitled: “The Art of Extreme Self-Care: Transform Your Life One Month at a Time” It is wonderful! I love soaking up all these different advices and nudges into the best direction that is Loving Life and Loving Ourselves so we can Love Others Completely! :)
I am still trying to figure out what I can do to ‘get suppressed feelings’ out that might still be stuck in there in a way that feels fun, good and not too aggressive. I thought of getting boxing gloves as a symbol; I always wanted a punching bag growing up but no one took me seriously, even my dad who is an upholsterer so he could’ve made me one!! ;) I thought that’d be fun! Now, i don’t necessarily want that anymore, but its interesting I can see that desire in a whole new ‘spirit’ angle now that i was wanting to get unsuppressed even then! It’s surprising how much we suppress things in our society! Working on the more holistic way–that leads to true happiness! :) i know it’ll take time, but I’m in it for the long haul and for the cheers!
take care, and keep up the great blogs! :)

btw I love #1 You are unique, and no one else in the entire universe is just like you are. [learning to embrace this truth in my life] thank-you! :)

Random 5 things that make me happiest:
    1. Journaling –i feel so free, nothing else matters in those moments
    2. Writing – to share and help others -ease their burdens to know they aren’t alone and help them so they don’t have to go through quite as much as you did :)
    3. Enjoy nature! Everything about it is captivating and beautiful! Miracles are everywhere!
    4. Music – creates any atmosphere you can imagine and is healing for the soul :)
    5. Pet Companions – they just ‘get us’ .. without words! my bunny Angel is the best ever!!

Thank you for this wonderful post, Dayne :)
It is what someone like me really needs. I suffer from severe bouts of depression. I constantly feed my mind with: I am broke, I am not married yet (tho I have a very caring boyfriend whom wants to), others’ lives seem so together…and so on.
I try to stave all that off by reminding myself that God cares & things will improve, that one day I WILL be a huge success, that the people (celebrity and otherwise) I admire so or envy are not perfect at all & I should be glad to be ME. These self-thoughts help, but then I go back into depression mode when things happen. I read your post so that I could feel good about myself and at ease with life. It helped & I even cried a little. I saved your blog to my Favorites list. I will visit it when I need reminders that everything will be okay and life CAN & DOES change unexpectedly for the better. God is great & I cannot give up!
    Thank you!

I can’t even read this site because of the damn floating InShare box covering the left side of the page. I hope all you lovely people & criminals have a happy wonderful life. Be sure to be bigots, braggarts, bums, liars, cheats, con artists & thieves while your at it. Mock & use everyone that you can. Taking as much as possible while giving as little back as you can. That’ll make you a real winner. Can’t have win-win , No it’s got to be win-lose to be a Real man. Keeping your word is for losers like little midgets like myself. Have a great life all you real winners out there.

    • Wenwae says:

I’m cynical too, but I’m working on it. It’s hard to remember sometimes that everyone’s a person and that most people are generally good.

Also, midgets are not losers and not keeping your word is pretty much always frowned upon.

I hope you’re doing better since you posted this. *Hugs*

  20. A Friend says:

Life is full of challenges and pleasures. It is true that some people face tremendous challenges, but as a Christian, life is seen as a gift from God to love Him most of all, and love others as yourself. Take pleasure in gifts of life, and we should try to help others. I can say that I have happiness, as I know that I am loved by the Creator and God of Heaven and Earth, and love Him back. Please, to anyone who is reading this and needs help, understand that you have a purpose in life, and you are made special. We are all sinners, and even if you feel horrible about your wrongdoings, and are going through a rough time, God wants to be with you and for you to love Him. No matter what, God does not want you to perish, and God has loved us with eternal love since the beginning. I cannot describe the joy of being a Christian.

  22. Alex says:

I think it’s half true. Life has good moments for most people, and my life has had good moments. That doesn’t make life feel good though. Life can suck and most of the time it does. There is only one piece of my life that makes me hold on and I love her for it. So I think I’ll be ok for a little while longer.
I’m glad I found that piece of life that I love.
