Thanks for this post. I used to do a version of the Random Element when I was younger. I'd completely forgotten about it, but I remember it really working. In fact I'm using it at the moment. "How is my cat Toby similar to my job?" :-)

Thanks again,
Tim Woods

I'm entirely alien to the principles you have elaborated here. I have learned a lot today reading this article. Thanks for sharing this unique approach in dealing with problems. :-)

HI Dayne, thanks for putting this really CREATIVE list of creative techniques together. You know I totally agree that we need to use our creative minds more to solve problems than we're accustomed to doing. I loved the "Random Element" and "The Lotus Blossom". I'm definitely going to try them... I think they really have so much potential, especially the lotus blossom...

Cheers,
Miche :)

Thanks Dayne,

I need to get my creativity going these days. "What if" questions is something I'm currently using and it works very well for me. It's like squeezing a lemon all the way.

I really like The Lotus Blossom idea. We use a software development process at work called Agile - it kinda fits in with a lot of what you talk about on here: doing less, KISS, avoid unnecessary work, etc and it also relies heavily on sticky notes. I think The Lotus Blossom could work really well during planning and design stages.

Dayne - a truly useful post, thank you! So many list posts nowadays are filled with nothing but me-too fluff. It's such a pleasure to come across a post like this one that actually contains concrete, immediately applicable information.
