I agree completely that the fall is a fine time to do some checks and balances on finance, pun was totally intended here. We tend to spend a little more over the summer because of vacations, buying summer clothes, and just trying to enjoy the weather. Then come the holiday season and the music in the stores just scream "buy me, buy me" "you know you want me...." I think assessing the budget and keeping tabs on spending is a great way to not over spend during the holiday season. I like to keep an eye for big sales and coupons. I think keeping a journal of expenses is a great idea, makes you accountable; kind of like keeping a food journal keeps us accountable for what we eat.
